KANUBARI, Apr 4: The team comprising the Flying Squad and local police seized a sum of Rs. One crore during a routine inspection at the Kanubari Check gate in Longding District.
Superintendent of Police Longding, Dekio Gumja, addressed the media, stating that the combined team intercepted an SUV during routine checks and discovered the cash inside, which was en-route to Longding.
Gumja clarified that the vehicle in question was not part of the convoy accompanying the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, who was attending a political rally in Longding on the same day. When questioned about the source of the cash, the SP mentioned that preliminary inquiries indicated its association with a construction company, intended for labour payments.
He emphasized that their role was to seize and seal the cash, with further investigation to be conducted by the Income Tax department. Additionally, Gumja highlighted that carrying amounts exceeding Rs. 50,000 by any individual during the election period was against regulations during this election process under the model code of conduct.
