ITANAGAR, Aug 23: In a major crackdown against drug peddling, the Itanagar Capital Police apprehended a serving police constable with suspected heroin in his possession during a swift operation at Jollang, Itanagar recently.
Acting on credible information, a police team led by Inspector K. Yangfo, SI R.K. Jha, and SI Tai Paming conducted the operation and apprehended the accused, identified as Dara Gumja Tamin (33 years), a resident of Sebing village, Daporijo, and presently serving as a constable in the 4th IRBN, Jully, Itanagar.
From his possession, the team recovered a black polythene bag containing 34 vials of suspected heroin weighing 48.06 grams (with vials) along with 31 empty vials. Following the recovery, a case under Section 21(b)/27 of the NDPS Act was registered, and the accused was remanded to police custody.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that Tamin is a habitual offender. He had previously been arrested in Bomdila PS Case No. 24/20 U/S 21(b)/27/27A/29 NDPS Act and Bomdila PS Case No. 24/21 U/S 27(b)/29 NDPS Act. Police suspect that he was procuring narcotics from Assam. The ongoing investigation is being led by SI Samuel Ngupok under the supervision of Kengo Dirchi, SDPO Itanagar.
SP Itanagar  Jummar Basar, commended the Capital Police team for their swift action and also appreciated the valuable cooperation of the youths of Jollang during the operation. He reiterated that the fight against the drug menace in the ICR region will continue relentlessly.
Issuing a stern warning, the SP cautioned that any citizen found involved in drug-related activities will not be spared. He further stressed that if any police personnel are found indulging in such illegal practices, the strictest action will be taken against them
