NIRJULI, Feb 19: In the midst of the two day ‘Public bandh' in the Itanagar capital region on February 17 - 18 last, police personnel helped a pregnant woman deliver her baby at a police station.
At around 0730 hrs, Constable  Rohit Dada of Nirjuli Police Station was asked by a family of the pregnant woman to help them in reaching the hospital. The police personnel took the pregnant woman in his personal vehicle; however, the roads were blocked in various locations en route to Naharlagun. Hence considering the condition of the woman and the law & order situation, she was brought to the Police station, Nirjuli, being the closest place.
Lady police personnel along with a wife of a police personnel helped the woman deliver a baby girl inside the station. The parents of the baby named the newborn “Ana”, from the last three letters of the word ‘Thana’.
"Bandh call affects and disrupts normal life to  maximum extent and poses threat to life and property directly; Capital police strives to serve even in such difficult times," said SP Jimmy Chiram in a press statement.
