BHALUKPONG, Dec 6: In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Bhalukpong Police intercepted an ambulance bearing registration number AR01N-8414 and seized 24 vials of suspected heroin weighing 32.06 grams (including plastic vials) during a routine check. The operation was carried out under the "Operation Dawn Initiative," a campaign aimed at curbing drug trafficking in the region.
The driver of the ambulance, identified as Sona Wangchu, a casual driver working with the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kalaktang, was taken into custody. A case has been registered against him under Section 21(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Bhalukpong Police Station (Case No. 16/2024).
During the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the heroin was procured from the Konamukh area of Assam at a cost of `550 per vial. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the supplier involved in the trafficking chain.
The operation was led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Thumgon Tali, assisted by a dedicated police team comprising ASI Thutan Tsering, Constables Langha Peter, Daki Sagro, Tosa Natung, Honwang Wangsu, and Govind Naloiju, along with Head Constables Thutan Tashi, Kamshyam Mamai, Gollo Desisow, and Bodo Yamchodu.
This successful operation was carried out under the guidance of SDPO Bhalukpong, Pawan Kumar Yadav, and the overall supervision of SP West Kameng, Sudhanshu Dhama. Their relentless efforts and coordination highlight the police department’s commitment to combating drug trafficking in the region,stated a release.
