Itanagar, Jul 14: Director from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Rugved Milind Thakur, accompanied by Ananya Sharma, Assistant Director, Khelo India (SAI), Regional Office Guwahati visited the Khelo India-accredited Centre Itanagar today. Director of Sports cum Nodal Officer, Khelo India Schemes Government of Arunachal Pradesh, Nada Apa, District Sports Officer (Headquarters), Satrajit Kachari, Assistant Director and Harnam Singh, High Performance Manager, State Level Khelo India Centre Chimpu also accompanied the duo.
The primary objective of the visit was to assess the on-ground level implementation of the Khelo India Projects and schemes, interact with stakeholders, beneficiaries, identify best practices, challenges, and gather inputs for evidence-based documentation.
The visiting Director also interacted with the Executive Members of Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) including young shuttlers, coaches as part of first hand- information on the ground level.
During the maiden visit, the Director, PMO interacted with the Executive Members of the Arunachal Badminton Association (ASBA), senior coaches, and over 30 young athletes. The interaction provided valuable insights into the aspirations, progress, and challenges faced at the grassroots level. It also reaffirmed the Government of India’s commitment to nurturing sporting talent across the nation under the Khelo India initiative.
Bamang Tago, Secretary General of the Arunachal State Badminton Association, delivered a detailed Power point presentation on the current sports landscape in the state. He highlighted key challenges and laid out future strategies and initiatives, including a comprehensive Five-Year Action Plan aimed at strengthening the grassroots sports ecosystem in Arunachal Pradesh and mission for Target Olympic Podium (TOP).  Tago who is also the Secretary General of Arunachal Olympic Association pointed out that incorrect choices of location of Khelo India Multipurpose Hall fully funded from the Ministry to the tune of Rs. 8 Crores has become a concern for all stakeholders and beneficiaries as a maximum of such projects have been constructed far away from the respective district headquarters.
The visit provided an excellent platform to deliberate on the implementation of Khelo India schemes and projects with a special focus on the unique context of Arunachal Pradesh. The delegation appreciated the proactive approach and collaborative efforts being made to promote sports in the region.
This visit reflects the Government’s continued commitment to ensuring balanced and inclusive sports development across all regions of the country, with particular emphasis on the Northeast.
