CHONGKHAM, Apr 27: On Wednesday night, a group of three armed men abducted an employee of a petrol pump, one Dinesh Sharma at gunpoint, in Momong Village of Chongkham Circle in Namsai District. The kidnappers, who were carrying AK-47 rifles, reportedly also shot at another person who was an excavator driver, Mithai Marandi (28), leaving him critically wounded.
Marandi has been taken to a Dibrugarh Hospital in eastern Assam for further treatment. Eyewitnesses reported that the armed abductors, who were suspected to be members of the militant outfit ULFA(I), arrived on foot at the petrol pump wearing bulletproof jackets. The petrol pump is owned by Zenia Namchoom, ZPM Momong.
So far, no militant group has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping and Police has launched a massive manhunt to track down the kidnappers, and checkpoints have been set up to block the exit routes.
