PASIGHAT, May 30: A consultative meeting was convened by the Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman of Pasighat Smart City Development Corporation Limited (PSCDCL) today to celebrate World Bicycle Day on June 3 next at Pasighat. The meeting was attended by the Pasighat East MLA Kaling Moyong, SP Sumit Kumar Jha, ADC Tatdo Borang, PMC Chief Councillor Okiam Moyong Borang and her deputy, HoDs, political party leaders, president and secretaries of various NGOs and Cycling Association of East Siang district.
Addressing the house, MLA Moyong said that to encourage people about road safety measures, promote pedestrian safety and bicycle mobility, the World Bicycle Day (WBD) will be celebrated. The present government while putting all efforts for improvement of road infrastructure, must ensure appropriate provision for bicycle riders and pedestrians providing sustainable, affordable and eco-friendly means of transport that keeps everyone fit. People should come forward and extend cooperation and logistical supports and ensure that children ride a bicycle to school and colleges instead of two wheelers, he said adding that office goers can adopt a day or two in a month to ride a bicycle and those who cannot can go on foot.
Regular activity can improve our quality of life and reduce the risk of developing several diseases such as obesity, heart disease, mental illness, diabetes and arthritis. Riding a bicycle regularly is one of the best ways to reduce our risk of health problems associated with a sedentary lifestyle, opined the MLA.
Chief Executive Officer, PSCDCL, Dr. Manjuli Komut threw light on action plan and basic theme set for this year's celebration. She also informed that participants of the bicycle rally will be awarded with cash prizes and certificates.
