Yupia, Sep 22: District Level Coordination Committee on National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP)  held a detailed review meeting on the  epidemiology of Tobacco Use in District  and discussed the contours of NTCP and provisions of COPTA-2003, here at Yupia on Thursday.
The meeting was chaired was DLCC Chairperson, Sachin Rana, the Deputy Commissioner, Papum Pare.
 The meeting was held to review the action plan for implementation of Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Act 2003,  and to regulate the supply, and distribution of cigarettes and other tobacco products.
DC exhorted upon the DLCC members to intensify implementation of NCTP & COPTA 2003. Massive awareness drive about the health hazards of tobacco and enforcement of National Tobacco Control Programme be launched in district, he said.
 He further suggested for  identifying the officers to be  designated as enforcement officers, sensitising them on the provisions of COPTA 2003 to implement National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) and intensify seizures and checkings in the concentrated areas.
He also instructed the enforcement authorities of COPTA  and Trade Development  Officer  to keep check on the sale of tobacco and related products within 100 yards of any educational and other identified institutions. Tamchi Yabi, Consultant ( NTCP) presented a detailed presentation on the activities carried out in the district to create awareness on the ill effects of the tobacco usages; the prevailing tobacco usage scenario in the district besides, giving details of the penal and enforcement provisions of COTPA-2003.

She also informed that six schools have been declared tobacco free zones in the district and efforts are being made to declare more schools as tobacco free zones.
Also Participating in the meeting District  TB Officer Dr. P.D. Thongchi informed the house about the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan  ,which aims to free India of TB by 2025, five years ahead of the global target of 2030.
He sought volunteers to support the TB patients undergoing treatment in the form of Additional Nutritional Support by becoming a Nikshay Mitra- a donor.
He further informed that those wishing to be Nikshay Mitras need to register themselves on the Ni-kshay 2.0 – a digital platform for community support to TB patients.
