ITANAGAR, Jun 23: The 1st Pasang Wangchuk Sona State Level Memorial Hockey Championship concluded with great success as Papum Pare claimed victory in the men's category and Kra Daadi emerged triumphant in the women's category. 
Organized by Hockey Arunachal, this thrilling tournament showcased the immense potential and talent present in the hockey landscape of the state.
The closing ceremony took place at the Sangay Lhaden Sports Complex, Chimpu, and was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and Taliha MLA Nyato Dukam as chief guest and guest of honour respectively. Both duo also gave away the prizes to the winners.
Addressing the gathering, Mein  congratulated Hockey Arunachal for successfully organizing the mega tournament. 
Describing Arunachal as a hub of sports, he highlighted the tremendous potential for hockey to flourish in the state. He called upon every individual to take responsibility for popularizing hockey and other sports and informed about the government's steadfast commitment to promoting sports and harnessing the power of the youths.
Deputy Chief Minister also took a moment to remember and pay tribute to the late Pasang Wangchuk Sona, after whom the tournament is named while terming him as an exceptional leader.
MLA Nyato Dukam shared his valuable insights on how games and sports including hockey can grow in the state, underscoring the significance of sports in shaping the careers of the youth. 
Chief Patron and Speaker of the State Assembly, P D Sona, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Pema Khandu and all others who provided invaluable support in organizing the mega tournament. 
Sona emphasized that the championship was not only a memorial event but also an important initiative that would significantly boost the growth of hockey in the state. 
Stating that hockey is the national game which need promotion and encouragement, Sona called upon everyone to support Hockey Arunachal in its mission of popularizing hockey across the state.
Among other present on the occasion were MLA and Patron Hockey Arunachal Hayeng Mangfi, Vice Chairman SAA Sanjeev Tana Tara and Secretary Sports & Youth Affairs Abu Tayeng.
