Pangin, Oct 20: The Pangin Gram Panchayat of Siang district organised the first ever Mahila Sabha on Wednesday at Pangin Moruk Dere. Chaired by the Pangin Gram Chairperson, Oyini Dupak, the Mahila Sabha was graced by Kenjum Pakam, Chairperson, APSCW, Sangeeta Yirang, MS, APSCW, Onam Darang Pertin, President, ABAK and Niyang Pertin, CO-cum-Member Secretary, Pangin Gram Panchayat.
Welcoming the gathering, Ms. Niyang Pertin, Member-Secretary, Pangin GP briefed that the “Mahila Sabha is a village-level platform to discuss issues plaguing women, give voice to and increase participation of women at the level of grassroots’ democracy,” thereby meeting the objectives of Localisation of Sustainable Development Goals (LSDG) Theme 9 ie., ‘Engendered development in villages’.
Addressing the women, APSCW Chairperson Kenjum Pakam said “women groups have a great role in changing the society and fighting successfully against social evils such as alcoholism, polygamy, domestic violence etc. As women, we have the power to mould the future of society.”
APSCW Member-Secretary, Sangeeta Yirang elaborated on the Arunachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj Act, 2018 and the roles and functions of Gram Panchayats. She also urged the women to attend and participate in Gram Sabhas and support the PRI members and government officials in developmental endeavours. 
Adi Bane Ane Kebang (ABAK) President, Onam Darang Pertin, whilst congratulating the women of Pangin circle for their active participation in village governance also urged mothers to raise their children equally, irrespective of gender. “For a society to move forward, men and women should enjoy equal status,” she said.
