Itanagar, Oct 9: The Itanagar Capital Complex Police arrested five persons for their alleged involvement in illicit drug trade during the past one week and recovered more than 140 grams of suspected heroin from them, City SP Jimmy Chiram said on Sunday. Four cases have been registered and investigation has been launched.
"Capital Police with Anti Drug Squad (ADS) under DySP K Dirchi, and Police station teams under close supervision of Addl SP Thutan Jamba has done excellent work last week on drug supply reduction. In seven days, four cases have been registered in the Itanagar Capital Region leading to the arrest of five persons and recovery of 140.14 grams of suspected heroin," the SP said.
He said the ADS and Itanagar Police Station team carried out an operation on Saturday which led to the arrest of one Nabam Tajo, 35, from the Gopur Tiniali area and recovery of 90 grams of suspected heroin from his possession.
Meanwhile, the SDPO Naharlagun and Banderdewa PS team arrested two persons - Akeng Talong (27) and Duyu Payeng (27). The operation led to the recovery of 19.92 grams of suspected heroin, Chiram informed.
He said the first case was registered in Banderdewa PS under OC Inspector P Simi, and one Vijay Parang (22) was arrested with around 23 grams of suspected heroin.
On Oct 5, Rosidul Haque (25) was arrested in Naharlagun PS under OC Inspector M Geiyi leading to the recovery of 7.22 grams of suspected heroin.
While reiterating that the Capital Police will continue its efforts to curb the drug supply chain, the SP said, Executive Magistrates of the capital area and the public have been supporting the police teams in various operations and added that police were looking forward to continued cooperation in the war against drugs.
