Reliance to endorse archery in the state, says Rijiju

NAHARLAGUN, May 11: The Capital Complex (CC) Club today lifted the Oorja CAPF Under-19 Talent Hunt Football Tournament 2017 (Boys’) after defeating Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA) by 2-1 in an exciting final match played at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium here.

Both the teams displayed quality skill sets and team work against their opponent, resulting in zero score till the end of the first half.

In the second half of the match, CC Club’s Dorjee Sherpa (Jersey no 5) netted the first goal of the match at 61st minute followed by goal from Hillang Kapa (Jersey no 14) at 65th minute, thus making the score 2-0.

Bringing hope and cheers among the supporters of SLSA, Gyamar Kuka (Jersey no 1) of SLSA converted a penalty into a goal at the 69th minute.

However, despite rigorous attempts the SLSA failed to capitalize any more goals till the final whistle.

The winning team walked away with a cash prize of Rs 50000 along with the trophy while SLSA bagged Rs 30000 and a trophy.

The best player of the tournament under Boys’ category was adjudged to Tailyang Cosy of CC Club and under Girls’ category to Siang Yangda of CC Club. Both were awarded a cash prize of Rs 4000 each.

Earlier on Wednesday, the final match under girls’ category and hardliner match were played at the same venue wherein CC Club (Girls) lifted the title after defeating Lohit team (Girls) by 2-0. The hardliner match for both boys and girls were won by East Siang team, and were given a cash prize of Rs 20000 each.

The Oorja tourney was a run up tournament to set stage for the under-17 FIFA world cup which is to be held in India in October. The tournament is being organized by the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) across the nation and the responsibility to organize the tournament in the state has been given to ITBP in collaboration with the Department of Sports and Youths Affairs.

However, 20 players, each from boys and girls, will be selected from the eight teams which participated in the tourney to represent the state in the zonal level football tournament at Meghalaya from June 5-25 next. The selected players from the zonal level football tourney will then be playing for the Prime Minister’s Trophy from July 8 to 25 next.

Meanwhile, speaking at the closing ceremony, Union minister for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju lauded the organizers and participants for the success of the tournament.

Rijiju also appealed to the players to maintain discipline in the match and afterwards also to be a true sportsmen and also advised them to set target.

While stating that only potential will not serve the purpose as it needs a platform for it, Rijiju informed that from now onwards the ITBP will be organizing tournaments in the border districts of the state.

He also informed that Reliance Company has accepted his proposal for planning and development of archery in the state, so that the state can be represented in various national and international events.
