ROING , July 14: A tragic shooting incident has rocked Lower Dibang Valley District as one person lost his life in a suspected act of gun violence at 6th Mile, Roing on the afternoon of July 13.
The deceased, identified as Sankar Pegu (30), son of Kamleshwar Pegu and a resident of Behali in Assam’s Biswanath District, was allegedly shot by Tadar Bhai (32), son of Tadar Tagin from Rach-III village under Sagalee Police Station in Papum Pare District.
After the incident, the accused reportedly rushed the injured man to TRIHMS, Naharlagun, for emergency medical treatment. However, Sankar Peju succumbed to his bullet wounds at around 4:00 AM on July 14, despite medical efforts.
According to sources, the Naharlagun Police apprehended the accused and recovered a pistol from his possession. He has since been handed over to the Roing Police for further investigation.
In response to the brutal incident, MLA of Jonai (Assam) took to social media to strongly condemn the killings of both Late Prabhas Doley (earlier killed in Itanagar) and Late Sankar Pegu—calling it a "brutal and inhumane murder" that has shaken public conscience.
“The loss of two innocent lives cannot go in vain. We demand immediate, unbiased, and strict action. Let justice be our only tribute,” the MLA stated, expressing deep grief and solidarity with the bereaved families.
