LAZU, Feb 12: The 12th Ollo Woraang Juku of the Ollos of Tirap district was celebrated today at Lazu bordering Myanmar with great enthusiasm and gaiety. 
While addressing the huge gathering of festival revelers, Namsai MLA Chow Jingnu Namchoom, who was the chief guest of the occasion extended greetings to the people of Ollo community and said that festivals foster love, peace, happiness and joy. 
Namchoom passionately appealed to the people to preserve their rich legacies handed down to them by their ancestors. He said that culture and religion were two different entities and must not be allowed to clash. He also insisted on women empowerment for all round development.
Speaking as guest of honour Tirap DC Hento Karga urged the people to preserve their rich traditional culture for posterity. Taking the advantage of the mammoth gathering, he appealed to the villagers to shun opium cultivation and addiction as it is ruining the future of the Ollo community. He added that opium cultivation which is illegal should be replaced by cash crops under central and state sponsored flagship programs and asked the stakeholders to engage in agriculture, horticulture and  veterinary activities for sustainable and permanent economic stability. The DC also urged all to maintain health and hygiene to avoid spreading waterborne diseases like diarrhoea and dysentery.
