ITANAGAR, Jul 8: The National People's Party (NPP) in Arunachal Pradesh has taken a firm stand against the immediate implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state. During the State Executive Meeting held in Itanagar today, the party unanimously adopted a resolution opposing the UCC, citing the state's diverse multi-ethnic and multi-tribal composition, as well as its strong customary and traditional identity.
Speaking to the media, Paknga Bage, General Secretary of NPP Arunachal Pradesh, emphasized that the party stands united in its resolution to oppose the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code. Instead, the NPP Arunachal Pradesh proposed that the State and Centre should focus on codifying the existing customary laws with necessary modifications to align them with tribal practices.
Bage, further informed that the NPP will extend its support towards revoking the National Pension Scheme and reinstating the Old Pension Scheme. The party believes that the reimplementation of the Old Pension Scheme will contribute to the welfare of the people and address their pension-related concerns more effectively.
In a separate press briefing, the National People's Party (NPP) Working President(AP) and former MLA Likha Saaya, informed that several resolutions were adopted in its State Executive Meeting, laying the groundwork for the upcoming Assembly election in 2024. Saaya, emphasized that while the NPP is in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on developmental issues, but the party follows its own ideology.
The executive meeting focused on various key aspects, including strategic planning for the 2024 Assembly election, upcoming district tours, and the formation of frontal wings within the party and in the districts. With preparations already underway, the NPP aims to field candidates in consultation with National Party President Conrad Sangma in the upcoming election, he added.
Saaya, further emphasized that the NPP is a secular party, stressing that it holds no prejudices against any individual or religious group. The party's sole objective is to ensure the overall development and welfare of every citizen in Arunachal Pradesh. Saaya urged the people to join the NPP and contribute to its vision of inclusive growth.
