ITANAGAR, Mar 21: A one day workshop on ‘say no to plastic’ was organized by the National Hydropower Corporation (NHPC) here today at the Don Bosco Youth Centre, as part of its CSR activities.

Director, DFP, Arunachal Region Dr. HR Keshavamurthy who was the chief guest in his address dwelt on the efforts of government to eliminate the use of plastic bags and urged the participants to adopt this in their day to life and also educate peers and relatives about the ill effects of reckless use of plastic bags, on human and animal life and on the environment. Citing the hazards caused by littering of plastics, he urged citizens not to use plastic bags unnecessarily and segregate them from biodegradable wastes to facilitate proper disposal of the same in a safer way. He appealed the youngsters to carry this message as part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan everywhere to bring about change in mindset towards this problem and protect mother earth for future generation.

In his speech Executive Director NHPC, Ronel Kumar explained the success of state of Sikkim in eliminating use of plastic and urged all hilly states specially, to practice this as a policy as reckless use of plastic is one of the causes for landslides. He also explained the efforts of NHPC to reach out to public in its project areas with various such initiatives as part of CSR activities and promised to step up its activities during 2017-18.

Fr. Cyriac , Director of Don Bosco Youth Centre also shared his concern about the plastic menace and called for a concerted, continuous efforts of all to fight the problem.

On this occasion NHPC distributed General Knowledge books ( Encyclopedia) to students of JNK School, Don Bosco and others. Director of RWPL, Faridabad Rakesh Kumar made a presentation on the theme at the event. Experts from Refinement Wellness Pvt. Ltd were invited as resource persons to educate the participants about the ill effects of plastics.
