NAHARLAGUN, Aug 2: The Department of Health & Family Welfare, National Health Mission in collaboration with the USAID-supported MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity Project, conducted a State Media Sensitization Workshop on Intensified Mission Indradhanush 5.0 (IMI 5.0).
IMI 5.0 aims to address vaccination coverage limitations by focusing on populations facing barriers and strives to immunize children who have been left out or dropped out from Routine Immunization activities. Extensive training has been conducted at the state, district and block levels, emphasizing the need to reach unvaccinated and partially vaccinated individuals and ensure their inclusion in the immunization schedule.
The primary focus of IMI 5.0 is on prioritizing children aged 0 to 5 years who have not received any vaccines, with the ultimate objective of providing life-saving vaccinations to every eligible child. Additionally, the initiative represents a significant milestone in the nationwide effort to eliminate Measles & Rubella by ensuring that every child under 5 years completes the crucial two-dose schedule of Measles and Rubella (MR).
MD NHM (AP) Marge Sora, highlighted the crucial role of the media in IMI 5.0, "The media's role in IMI 5.0 is of utmost importance and cannot be underestimated. Media professionals play a crucial role in effectively conveying the importance of vaccination, leading to increased community engagement and significantly higher vaccine acceptance and coverage rates. Through awareness raising and dispelling myths, media personnel make a significant contribution to the success of this life-saving endeavour. It is firmly believed that by addressing vaccination barriers and implementing a targeted approach, a substantial positive impact can be made in safeguarding the health and well-being of our children and pregnant women.’’
