Padmashree Dai: We are  a living culture

PASIGHAT, Sep 9:  Nyishi Elite Society (NES) President, Prof. Tana Showren, gracing  as the Chief Guest of the Central Solung Celebration here today, said that  nature and culture is closely interconnected  in the lives of the Indigenous communities since time immemorial. All our festivals celebrated by the various tribes and the customs and folk dances, rituals show reverence to Mother Nature. The traditional knowledge of conserving and protecting Mother Nature is need of the hour to fight against climate change that we are witnessing due to wanton destruction of forests, rivers, wildlife, he said.
Earlier, NES President performed “Taku Taabat“ as part of traditional inauguration  of the festival.
Noted Author , Padmashree Dr. Mamang Dai, while extending Solung greetings, said that our rich oral tradition is a window to our rich past and mythology drawing on  our collective social memory of time immemorial adding that “we are a living culture”  reflected through all our festivals  of the state : .. To the young generation on the need for keeping touch with their roots, she said that “You must have a foundation of our collective history of your own culture” and at the same time move with the times and contribute to society through your innovation, creativity, sporting excellence and other areas.
Earlier, Local MLA Kaling Moyong extended his warm welcome to the NES team and also spoke on promoting  our culture and heritage though celebration of our age old festivals.
DC East Siang Tayi Taggu, Special Guest, President. Adi Baane Ane kebang (ABAK) Onam Darang Pertin,  ABK East Siang President, Er. Diji Tamuk, host of dignitaries and personalities from Adi community were also present on the occasion.
Earlier, Oyin Moyong President Central Solung Celebration Festival Committee (CSFCC-23) also narrated the history of  Central Solung Celebration since 1965-66 organised at Pangin first and the contributions of Golgi Botte Talom Rukbo and  late T.Taki among others. Kalen Komut General Secretary CSFCC -23 extended the Vote of Thanks.
The three-day Solung celebration will feature Miss Lune, cultural and literary, sports activities also.
