ITANAGAR, Sep 15: Toko Sheetal, the National spokesperson of the Gana Suraksha Party (GSP), has emphasized the urgent need to eliminate corruption and the enveloping influence of money in elections in Arunachal Pradesh.
Addressing the media at the press club on Friday, Sheetal underscored the importance of raising public awareness about clean elections, stating that "in Arunachal Pradesh elections have become a lucrative business." She stressed that while politicians often bear the brunt of the blame for corruption, the public's willingness to demand substantial sums of money from candidates is a root cause of corruption within the state.
The GSP's mission extends beyond merely participating in elections; it aims to establish a robust opposition within the state capable of advocating for the public's interests in the legislative assembly. Sheetal emphasized the necessity of electoral system reforms and public awareness campaigns to achieve this goal.
In an appeal to the public, she encouraged individuals to join the GSP, highlighting it as a party dedicated to serving the tribal community. She also noted that party members should have at least a secondary level of education to effectively represent the party in public platforms and government.
The Gana Suraksha Party is committed to combatting corruption, fostering clean elections, and working tirelessly for the welfare of Arunachal Pradesh's tribal communities, Sheetal added.
