ITANAGAR, May 22: The International Day for Biological Biodiversity with the theme --From Agreement to Action: Build Back Biodiversity, was jointly celebrated by the Arunachal Pradesh Biodiversity Board (APBB), Itanagar, and G. B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment, North-East Regional Centre (GBPNIHE-NERC), Itanagar.
To mark the occasion, on Sunday, a nature learning awareness event called the "Itanagar Biodiversity Walk" was held at the Itanagar Zoological Park includinb painting, essay and  quiz competition. 
On Tuesday,  Dr. Devendra Kumar, Head at GBPNIHE-NERC, welcomed the participants and highlighted the significance of the International Biodiversity Day - 2023. He also provided detailed information about the research and development programs of the institute. Additionally, Dr. B. B. Bhatt, a retired Senior Research Officer, Arunachal Pradesh Forest Department delivered a special lecture on 'An overview of biological resources of Arunachal Pradesh: A sustainable approach.' He emphasized the remarkable biodiversity found in the non-protected areas, such as community forests, and highlighted the need for conservation projects that involve the local community. "By encouraging community participation and advocating for eco-friendly practices, we can effectively safeguard the rich biodiversity of Arunachal Pradesh," Bhatt said.
Dr. Bamin Yakang, Research Officer at APSBB, also described the roles and responsibilities of APSBB.
The event concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners of the painting, quiz, and essay competitions. Some 30 participants including students, scientists, research scholars, and government staff, attended the program.
