ITANAGAR, Aug 8:  A meeting of the District level Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD)
committee was held under the chairmanship of SP Itanagar Rohit Rajbir Singh, today to discuss strategies to tackle the drug menace in the capital Itanagar.
The SP stressed on the role of every stakeholder and sought proactive cooperation  from all in making the district free from drugs. He explained in detail about the entire process of how search, seizure, raid and arrests are made in connection with drug cases and the legal provision with regard to it.
Singh urged all to work in coordination with each other especially the CDPOs and the Child Welfare Committees when drug cases related to children are reported.
The SP also asked the Drugs Inspector to ensure that drugs are sold only on the prescription of a medical practitioner and to conduct checking drives regularly.
He also asked the DMO Dr Mandip Perme to conduct regular checking under various sections of COTPA and assured all kind of cooperation from Capital Police. 
Emphasizing on the need to have mass awareness regarding drug menace, the ADC Hq Shweta Nagarkoti asked all the concerned departments to start massive awareness camps in schools, colleges and other public places. The ADC also directed the representative of DDSE to conduct awareness for the students in schools which should include their parents too. The ADC also directed him to ensure regular checking of COTPA which prohibits selling of cigarettes and other tobacco products in the shops within 100 yards from educational institutions.
SP Naharlagun Mihin Gambo stressed on the preventive aspect of drug abuse and urged all to help Police in identifying and putting a stop to the menace of supply of drugs.
EAC Itanagar Khoda Lasa stressed on the need to have better coordination between Judicial Magistrates, Executive Magistrates and police.
The CDPOs of Itanagar, Naharlagun and Nirjuli stressed on the need to have rehabilitation centres within Capital Region.
Ratan Anya Chairperson OWA said that there’s a misconception regarding Rehabilitation Center and efforts should be made to establish more numbers of rehabilitation centre’s, adding that OWA is willing to provide vocational training to recovering drug addicts post Rehab to bring their life back to normalcy.
Oli Koyu SNO , NCB stressed on the need to have proper coordination between the health, police, social justice and narcotics departments for sharing information regarding drugs addicts to facilitate their rehabilitation and to prevent severe resultant health issues like HIV etc.
During the meeting, threadbare discussion was held on various issues related to incidence of drug addiction, exchange of intelligence about the trends of drug trafficking, conducting anti drug abuse awareness programmes especially, in schools and colleges and implementing alternative livelihood programmes etc.
Among others, SDPO Chimpu Angad Mehta, IPS, EAC Naharlagun  Likha Radh attended the meeting.
