ITANAGAR, Apr 27: Two teams from SAMVAD, NIMHANS, Bangalore is on a 5-day visit to Arunachal Pradesh for conducting rapid assessment on child protection and mental health issues in the State from April 24 to 28, in collaboration with the state department of Women and Child Development.
Team A is covering the eastern zone and carrying out assessment in aspirational district Namsai and Lower Dibang Valley, and team B is covering Papum Pare and Lower Subansiri district in western zone.
During the course of the assessment period, SAMVAD team will be interacting with various stakeholders of child protection and mental health in the State like the HoDs of Women and Child Development Dept, Social Justice, Empowerment and Tribal Affairs, Education, Health, Labour and Panchayati Raj. They will also meet the Chairperson and Members of Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) and all the district, block and village level functionaries related to child protection and mental health like the members of Juvenile Justice Boards (JJBs), Child Welfare Committees (CWCs), Deputy Commissioners, District Child Protection Units, Child Care Institutions, One Stop Centres, Primary Health Centres, Anganwadi Centres, Schools, Panchayati leaders, gaon buras, etc.
The assessment report compiled will be submitted to the Dept. of Women and Child Development, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh and it will be utilized for developing a training programme for the functionaries of child protection and mental health issues in the State by SAMVAD, NIMHANS, Bangalore. This assessment programme will also help the state government in formulating programmes and policies for Child Protection and Mental Health intervention for children in vulnerable circumstances and distress.
The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), a tertiary care Mental Health Establishment, under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is an academic institution and a teaching hospital. SAMVAD (Support, Advocacy and Mental health interventions for children in Vulnerable circumstances And Distress) is a national initiative and integrated resource for child protection, mental health and psychosocial care established by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India and located in the Dept. of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, NIMHANS, Bangalore.
With the aim of enhancing child and adolescent psychosocial well-being through promotion of integrated approaches to mental health and protection, SAMVAD was established to extend its support and activities to all the states in the country.
