NAHARLAGUN, Dec 24: Along with rest of the country, the Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs has observed National Consumer Day state-wide today with the theme
“Timely Disposal of Consumer cases”. 
This day is observed to commemorate enactment of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 which was enacted in Parliament on this day in 1986. The enactment of this Act is considered a historic milestone of the consumer movement in the country.
In HQ office, the Department observed the day by organizing a meeting cum awareness programme on consumer protection for its officials and staff. Hoktum Ori, Controller, Legal Metrology cum Director Consumer Affairs, urged participating officials to update the knowledge on consumer protection so as to guide and advice people to become a wise shopper and to fight against unfair trade practices. Taba Tabin, Asstt Controller while highlighting importance of Consumer Helpline, explained the proper ways of reporting complaint as and when encountering             unfair trade practices during the time of transaction of goods or services. 
As part of the celebration and publicity on consumer protection, a vehicle with stateof the art decoration carrying various tips has been flagged off this morning by Hoktum Ori. The publicity vehicle passed through all the sector roads and other important locations in Capital Complex including the neighbouring places like Doimukh, Chimpu, etc.
