NAMSAI , June 4: Acting on a tip-off, Namsai Police today apprehended a drug peddler and recovered 400 grams of a pink-powdery substance suspected to be brown sugar from his possession, the value of which in local market is approximately Rs 4 lakh.
Superintendent of Police Namsai D.W.Thongon in a press communiqué informed that the operation was chalked out after receipt of an intelligence input from a reliable source that a person suspected to be drug peddler and carrying contraband is proceeding towards Nongkhon village under Namsai district from Bordumsa, Assam in a motorcycle bearing registration number AS 23 V 1821. Accordingly, a Naka was placed in Nongkhon Charali by SI A.N.Singh, HC J.P.Tiwari, HC A.K.Pandey and Ct(D) O. Tayeng in presence of Executive Magistrate N.L.Naam, EAC Mahadevpur.
The said motorcycle along with rider Bipul Duwarah (39) of Village Mohong No.ll, District Tinsukia, Assam was intercepted and after a search in presence of the magistrate, a big sized polythene pouch containing a pink-powdery substance suspected to be brown sugar was recovered. Accordingly, a case u/s 21(c) of the NDPS Act was registered at Mahadevpur Police Station for further investigation. The accused Bipul Duwarah was arrested and the recovered contraband along with the motorcycle were seized.
In another incident, on June 3 last, upon receipt of information from a reliable source, OC PS Namsai C.B.Rai along other police personnel in presence of the executive magistrate and independent witnesses conducted a raid at the house of one Dimbaswar Chetia of Solungtoo village and recovered approximately 80 grams of opium smeared in cloth.
A case u/s 17(b) of the NDPS Act was registered and the accused was arrested.
