NAMSAI,Aug 2: In one of the most significant drug seizures in the state and in Namsai district, a specialized team led by Superintendent of Police Namsai, S. Thinley, apprehended two notorious drug peddlers and seized heroin worth over seventeen lakh, during a raid on Sunday.
Acting on a tip-off received on July 29 last, the team carried out a raid at the residence of  Bhaskar Gogoi (32) and Putulon Gogoi (28), both residents of Bogamur Pahargaon village in Namsai.
Under the close supervision of SP Namsai, the team was led by SDPO Namsai Chera Sawan, and it comprised officers from Namsai and Mahadevpur Police Stations, along with personnel from 'A' coy CRPF Namsai.
“During the raid, the team successfully recovered and seized a total of 49 soap cases containing suspected heroin weighing approximately 499.15 grams. The estimated current market value of the recovered drugs is over Rs 17,15,000. Additionally, the team also confiscated Rs 30,500 in cash, believed to be proceeds from drug sales,"  informed the SP.
Police said the arrested duo have a notorious history of drug peddling in the district and have been involved in significant inter-state smuggling of drugs in recent times.
A case has been registered in Namsai Police Station vide C/No. 42/23 under Section 21(C) of the NDPS Act. The investigation into other aspects related to the case is ongoing.
The successful operation showcases the dedication and efficiency of the Namsai Police in combating drug trafficking and its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. The authorities are determined to continue their efforts to curb the illegal drug trade, added the SP.
