ITANAGAR, Dec 9: In a decisive move against drug trafficking in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR), the Naharlagun Police apprehended an inter-state drug peddler, Md. Babul Islam ( 24), hailing from Lakhimpur, Assam. The arrest was made during a late-night raid at his rented house in Lower Model Village, following intelligence about his involvement in supplying cannabis to local youth.
The raid was executed by a police team led by Inspector Krishnendu Dev, Officer-in-Charge of Naharlagun Police Station, along with SI Vivek Linggi, Constables Kento Samyor and Sanu Raaj, and Lady Head Constable Sange Dirchi. The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of SP ICR Naharlagun, Mihin Gambo, and SDPO Naharlagun, Rishi Longdo.
During the search, police discovered and seized 3.5 kilograms of cannabis from the premises. The seizure process was meticulously conducted in the presence of EAC Naharlagun, Khoda Bath, ensuring compliance with procedures outlined in the NDPS Act.
A case has been registered under NLG PS Case No. 149/24 U/S 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act. The accused is in custody and is being interrogated to identify the extent of the drug network and potential accomplices.
SP ICR, Mihin Gambo lauded the efforts of the police team and stressed the importance of tackling drug trafficking to protect the region’s youth. "The arrest marks a critical step in our relentless fight against drug abuse and trafficking," he remarked, urging the public to cooperate with law enforcement and report any suspicious activities.
The police have reiterated their commitment to making the ICR region a safer place and ensuring that drug traffickers face the full force of the law. Residents have been called upon to actively support the fight against this menace, as community vigilance plays a crucial role in curbing such crimes, stated a release.
