ITANAGAR, Aug 28: Balo Raja, Minister (Civil Aviation, Land Management & Urban Affairs) today flagged off, the much-awaited air cargo service from the Donyi Polo Airport, Hollongi (Itanagar). This is the first outbound air-cargo from Itanagar, which is being facilitated by the Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture Marketing Board under the guidance of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, by Indigo Airlines through its New Delhi bound flight.
The commencement of regular to & fro air cargo services in the coming days, is expected to boost the overall business of the State, which was also one of the prime demands from the Arunachal Chamber of Commerce. With the introduction of air cargo services, people of the State especially of the Itanagar Capital Region will have daily access to the national dailies also, which is now being delivered here on the next day of its publications for want of air-cargo services.
Later in the day, Raja also inspected the newly constructed terminal building of the Airport, which is slated to be dedicated to the people on September 2, this year. The new terminal has acapacity to accommodate 400+ passengers at its Departure Terminal itself. More flight services connecting Itanagar with Guwahati & Tezu are expected to commence soon with introduction of SpiceJet airlines into the services.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu on X has announced that Indigo will start its daily flight services in between Itanagar-New Delhi from September 17 next. Some more announcements related to the civil aviation sector is expected from the Union Minister for Civil Aviation during his upcoming visit to Itanagar for attending the North East Regional Ministers’ Conference on Civil Aviation & 3rd North East Aviation Summit, which will be held here in the State Legislative Assembly on September 4.
