ITANAGAR, Dec 14: Four MTB riders from Arunachal Pradesh have successfully completed the first AND toughest Mountain Terrain Biking course in India under the National Institute of Mountaineering & Allied Sports, (NIMAS) Dirang from December 1-12 last. All four were sponsored by Directorate of Youth Affairs, under the skill development programme.
Riders Ahondo Menjo, Tajum Dare, Kaling Mize and lone woman Rubi Lombo, were felicitated by Director Youth Affairs, DK Dinglow at his office today.
The training cum expedition team covered a distance of 250 Km approximately in high altitude areas with heights measuring up to 15500 ft during peak winters and with day time temperatures dipping below-7 degrees centigrade. The riders crossed several prominent passes including Bomdila, Sela pass and Bumla pass and made a record by becoming the first team ever to complete this treacherous route.
During the training, the riders were imparted training related to acclimatisation procedures, high altitude medicine, uphill-downhill biking manoeuvring skills etc.
