PASIGHAT, Apr 6: Local MLA Kaling Moyong appreciated the participation and response of the denizens of Pasighat and East Siang in the massive clean-up drive on the theme “Our River, Our Responsibility” for rejuvenating the city’s perennial rivulet, Paane Korong.
The natural rivulet which flows through a major portion of the Pasighat city to join the Siang River has borne the brunt of pollution over the years.
Moyong in particular dwelt on protecting water bodies from plastic and non-biodegradable waste polluting rivers and streams which are our lifeline and stressed on the need to rejuvenate urban rivers and streams to their pristine glory through collective efforts of all stakeholders concerned. He expressed positivity that in coming days the entire 3.6 km stretch of the rivulet will be rid-off all pollutants by the Pasighat Municipal Council with the able support of the District Administration through more of such initiatives involving maximum public participation.
Amongst others, the Cleanup drive event was attended by the Chief Municipal Councillor, PMC Okiam Moyong Borang, Deputy Chief Councillor, PMC, Rebecca Panyang Megu, CEO Smart City, Dr. Manjuli Komut, officials, Volunteers of NGOs from Mirmir Bulls, WASE, Pasighat Market Association, ABK and people from various walks of life.
The CEO, Pasighat Smart City Corporation, Dr. Manjuli Komut sought the support of the public for proper disposal of garbage through PMC sanitary garbage truck and designated dustbins to keep the city and surrounding clean and green. She profusely expressed gratefulness to the volunteers of Mirmir Bulls, WASE, ABK and other individuals for selflessly coming forward for the success of the event. M/s Sri Ram Enterprises, M/s Purvanchal Enterprises and M/s Agam Construction contributed generously to the event by providing machineries, materials and
manpower which was acknowledged by the PSCDCL authority.
The event was organized by the Pasighat Smart City Development Corporation in collaboration with Pasighat Municipal Corporation and East Siang District Administration as a part of continuation of series of activities under Pasighat –Amrit Utsav:100 Cities-100 events, an initiative of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Govt of India, under Azadi ka Amrit Utsav Campaign.
