PASIGHAT, Aug 16: Pasighat East MLA, Kaling Moyong today kicked off the Banggo Solung Football tournament at Kiyit village playground under Mebo Sub-Division, in presence of Deputy Commissioner East Siang Tayi Taggu, Mebo MLA cum Chief Patron of the Banggo Solung Celebration Committee (BSCC), Lombo Tayeng, among others.
Moyong lauded the efforts initiated by the committee members to organize several sporting and other literary and cultural events while celebrating Solung festival of the Adis centrally in Mebo after a gap of 22 years. While terming Kiyit village general playground as one of the finest sporting grounds which has hosted national level sporting events in the past, he said that many more indoor and outdoor stadiums, few with night playing facilities are coming up in Pasighat which will benefit athletes and youths.
The Deputy Commissioner advised the youths, especially those wanting a career in sports to avail such opportunities besides making the district, state and nation proud by performing well. Lombo Tayeng, 39th Mebo MLA who is also the Chief Patron of the Solung festival celebration committee said “As Solung festival is an identity of the Adis, we must upkeep our traditions and cultures by beautifully and peacefully celebrating our festival.”
Speaking on behalf of the organizing committee, Chairman Kalen Pertin, while quoting the two themes of the celebration— ‘protection and conservation of wildlife & forest’ and ‘say no to drugs’— said that due to excessive hunting, wildlife is rapidly depleting and becoming extinct. “We need to stop and minimize it for a better environment. At the same time our youths are also falling prey to drug addictions and several youths’ lives are in danger now,” he said.
The inaugural match was played between Sigar FC and Motum A, which the former won by 2-0 goals.
