Tawang, Oct 29: The much-anticipated 5th edition of MONDURO 5.0 – the World’s Highest Enduro Race—was inaugurated today at the Amphitheatre, Walk Through Market,Tawang, amid great enthusiasm and celebration.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by MLA Tawang Namgey Tsering as the Chief Guest, and Namgyal Angmo, Deputy Commissioner, Tawang, as the Guest of Honour.
This year’s edition carries the inspiring theme “MONDURO Goes Green,” emphasizing environmental responsibility and sustainability in adventure sports. A total of 25 riders from across India and overseas—including Japan, Iran, Bhutan, and Nepal—will compete in this high-altitude endurance challenge.
The event commenced with the unveiling of the official MONDURO 5.0 race jersey by the  MLA and accompanying dignitaries, followed by the flag-off ceremony.
The inaugural event also featured a vibrant cultural performance by the Ketchenga Cultural Troupe, showcasing the region’s rich cultural heritage. The ceremony concluded with a joy ride by participants through the scenic route from Old Market – New Market – Tawang Monastery.
The main race is scheduled for November 2-3.
On November 2, the race will begin from Lama Zhabzhey below PTso and conclude at the meadow behind Khinmey Monastery. 
On November 3, riders will tackle the most challenging stage, starting at an altitude of 4,400 meters at Kimilengtsey, passing through Gromling, Dobleytsey, and Jangon Nunnery, and finishing at Drekhang near Tawang Monastery.
The event will culminate with a closing ceremony and prize distribution at Drekhang, celebrating the spirit of adventure, endurance, and camaraderie that defines MONDURO.
With its growing international participation and strong focus on sustainability, MONDURO 5.0 continues to cement Tawang’s reputation as a premier destination for extreme adventure sports and eco-tourism.
