ITANAGAR, Feb 24: The Department of Disaster Management under the supervision of Dani Salu, Secretary, Disaster Management conducted a mock exercise on earthquake disaster scenario and other disaster emergencies at Civil Secretariat, today.
Secretaries, officers and staff of four blocks of Civil Secretariat participated in the mock exercise.  The objective of the mock exercise was to review the emergency preparedness plan of all the stafferd, officers and other responding agencies such as NDRF, SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services, Police, Medical team etc.
Creating an earthquake scenario of 8.7 Richter scale, siren was blown at 11.15 Hrs. All the four blocks of Civil Secretariat were affected and reports of injuries were received. It was assumed that there was massive destruction such as collapse of buildings, chemical leakage, and fire accidents. Staff and officials were evacuated safely to the identified safe place. Personnel from NDRF, SDRF, Fire and Emergency services etc., were used in the search and rescue operation of victims. AAPDA Mitra Volunteers also actively participated in the mock exercise. The victims were immediately given first aids and shifted to the nearest hospital.
As a part of the mock exercise, the methods for Duck, Cover, and Hold during earthquake were demonstrated to all the participants by personal from NDRF. NDRF also set up stalls to display various search and rescue equipment. Pamphlets of Do’s and Don’ts of various disasters were shared with all the participants.  
During the de-briefing, Komkar Dulom, Director, Disaster Management emphasized the importance of creating such awareness programme through mock exercises. He informed about vulnerability of the State to earthquake and the need for conducting mock exercise at regular intervals. He also appealed to citizens across the State to not believe in rumours which have been circulating in social media about an earthquake hitting North Eastern part of India. He informed that, till date, no scientist has ever predicted an earthquake. 
Papang Duggong, Assistant Director, Disaster Management appreciated all the officers, staff and especially nodal officers of each Civil Secretariat for actively participating in the mock exercise. He also requested all the participants to spread the knowledge gained during the mock exercise with friends, and family members.
