EMCHI, Jan 22: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) in collaboration with the 12th Battalion National Disaster Response Force (NDRF)Hollongi, organized a District Level Mock Exercise on earthquakes at the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) Depot in Doimukh on Wednesday.
The exercise which aimed to simulate a real-life disaster scenario brought together various stakeholders, including medical team, fire services, community volunteers, Aapda Mitra, and the 12th Battalion NDRF.
The primary objectives of the exercise was to assess the preparedness and response capabilities of the stakeholders, facilitate evacuation of personnel from affected areas, ensure effective communication and coordination among stakeholders, and enable the efficient deployment of emergency services during an earthquake scenario.
The exercise simulated a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, which caused multiple residential building collapses, fires, and oil leaks from the storage tank shell at the depot. Stakeholders demonstrated their preparedness and response capabilities, showcasing their ability to collaborate seamlessly in the face of a disaster.
During the exercise, the NDRF conducted search and rescue (SAR) operations within the simulated collapsed IOCL building. They also evacuated victims from the incident sites and transported them to medical and first-aid rooms for treatment.
This mock drill helped identify areas for improvement and ensured that all participants were well-equipped to handle emergency situations effectively.
