PASIGHAT, Sep 21: A mock drill to assess the bomb threat preparedness of all involved agencies was held here at the Pasighat airport on Monday as per the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) requirement.
As a part of the drill exercise which began at 1100 hours, all staff at the domestic terminal were successfully evacuated and the terminal thoroughly searched within the required time limit and guidelines. The airport security unit personnel along with the bomb disposal and detection squad (BDDS) carried out searches for an 'explosive-laden bag' planted at the terminal building as a part of the drill. The suspicious bag was located, isolated and then disposed of by the BDDS observing necessary precautions. After disposal of the suspicious object, the bomb threat assessment committee cleared the airport for further operations and the drill ended at 12.10 hours. It was participated by various agencies and emergency response services including the airport administration, airport security unit, district police, airline security, station manager and the India Air Force detachment at ALG Pasighat.
As there were no flights during the drill, no inconvenience was caused to passengers. “The drill was meant for improving the emergency preparedness and coordination of all agencies involved,” East Siang SP Rajiv Ranjan Singh said. DIPRO
