Boleng, Sep 25: In an effort to facilitate ease of medical accessibility and last mile connectivity in health care delivery in Siang district, a Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) was launched today in Boleng. Ojing Tasing, Minister (RD, PR, Coop, Transport) and Tayi Taggu, DC Siang flagged off the same here at Boleng today in coordination with the district medical officer. The flag-off program was attended by Johny Darang, DMO Siang, Oshi Pabin Mibang, ZPC Siang, admin officers and HoOs of Siang district.
The Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) is a fully equipped medical van with a dedicated team of doctor, nurse, lab. Technician, data entry operator and driver that shall move along with the van and cover the vast expanse of Siang district and provide free medical aid to the far-flung villages here. The MMU shall act as a moving hospital and supply free medicines along with providing lab facilities.
Minister Ojing Tasing lauded the district administration for the initiative and said that the MMU is a first of its kind in Siang district and is expected to cater to all the needy patients of Siang district who are unable to come to a hospital or health care center to avail health facilities. He appealed to all the needy people to come forward and avail the facilities catered by the MMU. He further appealed the citizens of Siang to assist in its cleanliness, maintenance and upkeep of the MMU van for the long run.
The MMU has been provided under the Outreach Activities of National Hydro-Electric Power Corporation Ltd. (NHPC) and shall be funded by NHPC for a period of four years. The MMU shall be operated by an NGO- Siang Rural Development Society based in Laimekuri, Dhemaji district, Assam in coordination with the DMO, Siang. (DIPRO)
