BASAR, Sep 21: To take stock of the current situation at Ego Camp in Lepa Rada district which has been ravaged by devastating landslides triggered by heavy rain and flash floods on September 17 last that also caused two deaths, Basar MLA Gokar Basar accompanied by locals visited the area on Monday.
Visiting the devastated places, the MLA while expressing grief informed that more than 8 km of road were damaged and properties, both private as well as government had been destroyed, the cumulative amount of which is more than Rs 10 crore. “The famous Ego Camp under the district has been completely engulfed by the mighty Ego river due to cloudburst and in place of hotels, shops and private residences there are only debris now. Many hectares of paddy fields and horticulture gardens have also been completely destroyed in the district,” Basar lamented. Giving the figures, he said that at least 15 houses and 10 shops/hotels and the tunnels of Dali Hydel have been fully washed away, resulting in a complete cut off of the Dari Circle from the rest of the world. He also extended condolence over the tragic loss of two lives lost in the calamity.
Meanwhile, the MLA has urged the state government to take immediate measures to reconnect the area by constructing a steel bridge and conduct a survey to assess the damage caused to the portion of the highway connecting Ego Camp.
