ITANAGAR, Dec 30: Responding to allegations leveled by All East Kameng District Students Union (AEKDSU) of his alleged involvement in siphoning off funds meant for the Seppa-Chayangtajo road, MLA Chayangtajo Hayeng Mangfi today refuted the claims terming it baseless.
Mangfi, responding to the FIR registered against him by the union in the SIC and various other allegations, said that the union does not understand the technical issues of the matter, and is being misled by some vested interest groups with malicious intent.
Addressing the media persons at the press club here today, Mangfi also refuted claim by the union that around 70 firms have so far been engaged in the construction work during his tenure as MLA. He said the only firm which took up the work is M/s Para Valley Enterprise, to whom an amount of Rs. 3.41 Crore has been paid so far.
“The amount paid to the firm is from the recently released amount of Rs. 19.92 Crore by the state government under work, ‘construction and improvement of Seppa-Chayangtajo road (81km)’ under the subhead, ‘restoration of flood damage on Seppa-Chayangtajo road during 2017-2021 (Phase-I).Moreover, the said fund is a special allocation as promised by the Chief Minister ,which is subject to be reverted back in case department fails to furnish Utilization Certificate (UC) against the work completed till date. So, to save the fund, authority has submitted UC against the work completed so far in the same project. There is no mismanagement," he asserted.
MLA further added that, the union should also know that the subhead was needed as the state government doesn’t provide fund for the same project for which fund has already been provided.
Mangfi said that he has directed the officials of the work-executing departments to propose a fresh tender. However, he also appealed to the union to at least provide some time so that the fresh tender process is completed.
“The entire work process is being put on hold due to the FIR registered by the union leaders against the officials of the department. Such trends should not be encouraged when it comes to the developmental works,” he said, adding that sometimes it feels like it is all politically motivated.
Mangfi also denied his involvement in obstructing the SIC in the investigation process, and also leading the PWD officials in the misappropriation of the funds, as claimed by the AEKDSU.
