BOMDILA, Jun 28:MLA cum Advisor to CM Japu Deru today made a daylong inspection of the damages caused in various parts under Bomdila Township due to the incessant rainfall in the last few weeks in the district.

The devastating rain left a trail of destruction at Upper Gompa, APEDA colony, Bank colony, Sera and Pedung villages. Landslides of varying magnitudes occurred at various sectors posing threat to government establishments and residential areas.

A total of 36 households and establishments have been listed under vulnerable areas jointly by the administration and the Disaster Management office and a total of 11 families have been evacuated to safer shelters as of date. Fortunately, there was no loss of human lives.

Of the essential services that were affected most, was drinking water supply and power supply. Although the power supply has been restored, the people of Bomdila are still face acute shortage of drinking water.

MLA Japu Deru directed the EE PHED to restore the water supply line on war footing as unrest prevails and suggested for procurement of departmental water tankers under the short term mitigation plan.

Acknowledging the magnitude of the landslides that had occurred and the probable chances of further erosions within the township during this monsoon, MLA Deru asked the DFO to make a detail survey of the affected areas and localities for mass plantation drive during the forthcoming Vanamahotsava.

He also directed the departmental engineers to streamline the framing of estimates so as to do away with duplicity and to frame actual and realistic estimates.

There shouldn’t be paucity of fund, he opined but reiterated that the works would be regulated and monitored strictly in accordance with the laid down norms.
