ITANAGAR, Apr 7: The family members of Everester Tapi Mra and his attendant Niku Dao have appealed to the state government to fulfill the entire demands which were accepted by the state government during a meeting held on November 7, last year.
Addressing reporters, Yatok Mra Nilo, sister of the missing Everester said that the recent circular issued by the Department of Youth Affairs is more of a coordination meeting to discuss the action plan and preparation to undertake the next search operation for the missing mountaineers.
She said that the meeting called by the Secretary of Sports & Youth Affairs (SYA) on April 11 next is a positive response from the state government, but it should also address the demands of the family which was accepted during the last meeting. Its been months, none of the demands of the family has been addressed by the state government so far, she said.
The demands of the family included action against the then DC of East Kameng PA Polumatla, talks with Chinese counterparts, naming the indoor stadium at Daporijo after Tapi Mra, and extending financial support to the family member of Niku Dao and a government job to the family member of Tapi Mra.
“We can’t be attending repeated meetings called by the state government. Rather it should come up with the final solution to the matter. Therefore, we will be attending the next meeting and are hopeful that the demands of the family will be addressed on the day,” she said, adding that there is hardly 20 days left to commence the search & rescue operation before the climatic conditions of the area gets worse.
She said that the demands related to the financial assistance to the family of Niku Dao should also be fulfilled and not ignored. Tapi Mra went missing performing his exploration duty along with Niku Dao. Hence, both families should be compensated equally.
Nilo also informed that the family members without any assistance from the state government have successfully made a walkable road covering around 45 percent of the place of incident. However, due to the lack of government order for search & rescue operations, the same has been put on halt.
“Also, I strongly believe that there is a 65% chance that Tapi Mra and Niku Dao have been abducted by the Chinese. Hence, the state government should immediately initiate talks with the Chinese counterpart to ensure it,” she added.
Tapi Mra, the first Arunachalee to conquer Mount Everest, along with his companion Niku Dao reportedly went missing last year when they were on an official mission to explore the snow-capped Mount Kyarisatam, in East Kameng district.
