ITANAGAR, Feb 28: An 11-year-old girl from Chimpu, Itanagar, who went missing last year was traced and rescued from Guwahati, Assam. The alleged kidnapper, identified as her biological elder brother, has been apprehended by the authorities.
The case, initially registered under ITA WPS C/No. 03/25 U/S 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), has now taken a grim turn with the addition of charges under Section 87 BNS and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to the complaint filed by the girl’s father, Mr. X, resident of Chimpu, Itanagar, his daughter, Miss A, went missing on the evening of 5th December 2024. After weeks of investigation, the minor was traced in Guwahati, where she was allegedly held by her elder brother. The accused was promptly arrested and is now in custody.
During the investigation, the victim revealed horrifying details of sexual assault by her brother, dating back to 2022. She disclosed that the accused had been sexually assaulting her repeatedly over the past two years. This revelation led to the addition of stringent charges under the POCSO Act and Section 87 of the BNS.
A medical examination of the victim has been conducted, and further investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of the crime. The authorities are working diligently to ensure justice for the minor and to provide her with the necessary support and rehabilitation, informed SP Itanagar.
