ITANAGAR, Jul 20:

In a memorandum addressed to Minister of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary & dairy development, the Arunachal Unemployed Veterinary Doctor Association (AUVDA) has urged him to create new posts of veterinary officers.

Citing available records, the association said that not a single VOs post has been created since 1986 and rather all recruitments of veterinary officers were being made against promotional and retirement vacancies, including vacancies due to death.

Referring to 12th live stock census of Arunachal, the union claimed that at least one veterinary doctor is needed to look after every 500 animals and suggested that state needs at least 282 VOs in addition to present 122 to look after the livestock population of the state.

Asserting that though government had created 14 new veterinary hospitals and 18 dispensaries, the association alleged the due to acute shortage of staffers, all the created facilities are non-functional.
