Itanagar, Oct 14: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein attended the Next-Gen GST Bachat Samvad Sammelan held in Itanagar, organised by the 13th Itanagar (ST) Assembly Constituency. The event focused on the transformative impact of the Next-Generation GST reforms and their role in strengthening the nation’s economy and empowering consumers. 
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister highlighted how the reforms, introduced under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have simplified the tax structure, boosted consumer confidence, and enhanced the purchasing power of citizens across the country. He noted that these reforms have created a strong consumption-driven momentum this festive season, truly reflecting the ‘double gift’ that the Prime Minister had announced during his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, Mein said that the GST reforms have brought immense relief to consumers and businesses alike by reducing tax rates, rationalizing the structure, and ensuring affordability in key sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and infrastructure.  
Citing the latest government data, the Deputy Chief Minister informed that retail inflation fell to 1.54% in September 2025, the lowest since June 2017. Food inflation registered at -2.28%, benefiting both rural and urban households with lower prices for daily essentials. Inflation in the transport and communication sector declined to 1.82%, while fuel and energy inflation eased to 1.98%, contributing to household savings and lowering overall living costs. 
Mein stated that with affordable prices, higher consumption, and renewed economic growth, this festive season has truly become a ‘GST Bachat Utsav’ for every Indian. He reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of GST reforms reach every section of society, fostering inclusive and sustainable development. 
He urged citizens to embrace this renewed spirit of savings and growth, marking a significant step forward in India’s march towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat and the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
