Seppa, Aug 9: The closing ceremony of the 10th Dorjee Khandu Memorial Badminton Championship was held at Seppa, East Kameng today, which has commenced on August 6 last. Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein graced the event as the Chief Guest and was accompanied by Minister of EF & CC, WRD and Sports & Youth Affairs Mama Natung, MLAs Tsering Tashi, Hayeng Mangfi, Goruk Pordung and Tapuk Taku.
The championship showcased the indomitable spirit and dedication of the young athletes from Arunachal Pradesh, who have embraced Badminton with great passion.
In his address, DCM Mein remembered the former Chief Minister, late Dorjee Khandu, as a great visionary and a true leader. He said that the championship was a fitting tribute to him, who had always encouraged sports and fitness among the people of Arunachal Pradesh.
He further mentioned that the Dorjee Khandu Memorial Badminton Academy, which is under construction now, will be completed by November of this year. He also emphasised that once it is completed, it will be a state-of-the-art facility that will provide world-class training and infrastructure to the young badminton players of Arunachal Pradesh.
Adding on, Mein appreciated the young players for bringing laurels to the state by winning several medals at the national as well as international levels.
He also gave assurance that the state government will increase budget allocation for the DK Memorial Badminton Championship from 20 Lakhs to 50 Lakhs from next financial year to further encourage shuttlers of the state.
In conclusion, Mein expressed his delight upon witnessing the promising talents of the participants and gave assurance to the shuttlers that the Government of Arunachal Pradesh will make every effort towards facilitating them at both national and global platforms.
