ITANAGAR, Jul 18: In an effort to curb the growing traffic congestion in the Capital Complex, a meeting was convened by Deputy Commissioner Prince Dhawan on Wednesday.

 The meeting was attended by local MLA Techi Kaso ,SP N Harsha Vardhan, SP Traffic Irak Bagra, Extra assistant Commissioner ( EAC) Hengo Basar, EAC(ITW) Toko Babu, Executive Engineer Highway Nani That among others.

During the meeting, the members discussed the traffic management system and to work out ways to improve the traffic system in the Capital Complex.

Kaso blamed the system of haphazard line up of vehicles during peak hours as one of the main reasons of traffic congestion.

‘Take strict action against violators of traffic rules by issuing challan, then  forward it to the court which would bring fear among the defaulters,’ he advised. He urged the traffic police to work without fear on the spot and check on such defaulters. He also stressed that traffic wardens should be on duty everyday.

The DC informed that parking and no parking zones have already been notified which requires strict compliance and asked all the traffic officers and officials to implement the same strictly. He asked that the traffic official/ warden should be able to manage traffic where there is only one way allowed. The SP was asked to deploy additional forces whenever required.

Dhawan also directed the OC Traffic, Itanagar/ Naharlagun not to allow intercity buses at any cost. The same should be diverted through the Pappu-Nallah- Jullang- Chimpu road and vice- versa, he stressed.

 Further, no buses would be allowed to park on NH-415 opposite Clock Tower and heavy vehicles shall not be allowed to enter the Capital Complex during the peak hours i.e 7 am to 9 pm.

He also informed that Executive Magistrates would conduct an exercise along with OC Traffic, Itanagar/ Naharlagun once in a week to check the follow up of traffic rules. 

He also directed the TK Engineering and Consortium Limited to regularly sprinkle water on the highways to contain dust.
