SEPPA, Nov 14: In a shocking and tragic incident today, a man identified as Nikam Sangbia, 40, wielded a machete (dao) and attacked patients, staff, and police personnel inside the District Hospital in Seppa, East Kameng District. The assailant killed at least four people, including his wife Tadu Sangbia, daughter Nakia Sangbia, , medical attendant Pakha Welly, and one Fei Beyong, as well as at least seven others sustained severe injuries.
The brutal assault unfolded when Sangbia stormed into the hospital and indiscriminately attacked those nearby. Victims included hospital staff, patients, and the Officer in Charge (OC) of the Seppa Police Station, Minli Geyi.
According to Superintendent of Police Kamdam Sikom, OC Geyi swung into the scene and attempted to get the assailant to surrender, but Sangbia attacked him as well. In response, Geyi fired his service pistol but missed, suffering injuries himself due to the attack from assailant.  Both OC Geyi and the other seriously injured victims have since been referred to TRIHMS  for further treatment.
Speaking to the media, SP Kamdam Sikom confirmed that Sangbia was apprehended and is now in police custody. Authorities are investigating the motive behind the heinous attack. "The situation is under control, and we will pursue all legal measures to ensure stringent punishment," stated Sikom.
The incident has drawn strong reactions from local leaders. District Medical Officer (DMO) Thuptan Lhamu described the horror of the attack, in which a child, a woman, and several hospital staff were severely injured, noting that the assailant "thrust himself into the hospital, wielding his machete, leading to multiple deaths and injuries."
Home Minister Mama Natung visited the hospital, where he met with affected families and condemned the attack. He assured the community that justice would be served, stating, “This incident is extremely unfortunate and must not be repeated. We stand with the hospital staff and will take strong measures to ensure safety and security.”
