PASIGHAT, Jul 21:  A man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting his niece in East Siang district. 
The Special Judge POCSO Act, East Siang District, Tageng Padoh sentenced the man to 20 years of imprisonment with a fine under section 6 of the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act. The accused was found guilty of committing aggravated penetrative sexual assault against the 10- year-old daughter of his step-brother.
The FIR was lodged on 27th July 2021 at Mariyang Police station by the father of the victim stating that the accused had sexually assaulted his daughter on 22nd July 2021 while the victim was staying at her grandparents’ house in Damro village during her school vacation and a case under section 376 IPC R/W section 6 of the POCSO Act was registered against the accused. 
On the day of the incident the accused came to the house of the grandparents during daytime where the victim was alone as the grandfather had gone to work and the grandmother was working in the fields and sexually assaulted her. The incident came to light when the victim disclosed and narrated the whole story to her grandmother. An amount of Rs 7.5 lakh was awarded to the victim as compensation under the Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme 2011. DIPRO, Pasighat
