ITANAGAR, Sep 7: A man was killed by a wild elephant in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh. The incident took place at Kongsa village under Namtok circle on Tuesday night when the deceased identified as 45-year-old Tantu Ngotan was returning home from a neighbour’s place.
The Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly (APLA) Deputy Speaker Tesam Pongte has mourned the tragic incident and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family in a condolence message.
An UD case has been registered at Namtok Police Station. After conducting post mortem examination and other legal formalities the body has been handed over to family members for conducting the last rites, informed Changlang SP Mihin Gambo.
During enquiry, it is learnt the deceased was suddenly attacked by a wild elephant while he was returning to his residence. On hearing the sound of elephant the villagers chased away the elephant and recovered the body, SP added.
Meanwhile, All Namtok youth association (ANYA) in a representation to Changlang Deputy Commissioner has appealed for compensation. The said family is in poor financial condition and has lost the earning member, the association said while appealing for help.
