PASIGHAT, Sep 12: Thwarting a possible crime plot or probably supply of arms and ammunition to underground elements, Pasighat police on Mondayrecovered a high explosive-36 live hand grenade from an individual.
On receipt of information from reliable sources, the police team conducted a raid at Raneghat Check gate where one Brij Gogoi, 37, resident of Upper Banskota, Pasighat (permanent resident of Murkong Selek, PO/PS Jonai, Dhemaji, Assam) was caught with the hand grenade.
Gogoi was arrested vide Pasighat PS Case No 161/17 U/S 4 of Explosive Substances Act,1908 and a police team headed by DIG, Central Zone, Pasighat John Neihlaja and SP Pasighat, Pranav Tayal and OC, Pasighat PS, Atan Taki are interrogating the accused.
During the interrogation, Gogoi gave a bizarre answer that, he had bought the grenade from one Basumatary from Simen Chapori for committing suicide. Police however are suspecting links with underground elements.
A joint team of Pasighat police led by SI Tabin Padung, SI Wakim Mungrey and Pradeep Kumar Yadav, Asst. Commandant G/186 CRPF Pasighat had made the arrest of the accused.
