Tawang, Oct 22: Central nodal officer for Jal shakti Abhiyaan-catch the rain for Tawang district, Indra Mallo called on officials to encourage community participation in preserving water bodies including water budgeting.
She was speaking at a review meeting with  officers of water resources department Tawang and committee members of Jal Shakti abhiyaan Tawang at IIM Shillong satellite centre Tawang this morning.
Speaking to the officers, the Central Nodal officer said "We need to take the Jal Shakti Abhiyaan seriously keeping in view the availability of water in future. Geo tagging of water bodies are important to check encroachment due to urbanisation." She further asked the officers to encourage community participation in preserving water bodies and also water budgeting.
She cited example of some states where water is provided through tankers and said to check such a situation in Arunachal Pradesh in future 'we have to conserve water bodies.'
The department concern for jal Shakti Abhiyaan was asked to keep updating their progress on the Jal Shakti Abhiyan portal.
Earlier in his welcome address Superintending Engineer,WRD S.Natung said that though Arunachal has abundance of water bodies,but a day might come when we may face acute shortage of water. Hence keeping in view the future requirements we have to start conserving and protecting water bodies from today itself, he added.
Executive Engineer WRD Tawang D. Bida presented brief report on progress of activities under Jal Shakti Abhiyaan-Catch the rain of Tawang district. Other committee members also presented their reports.
