ITANAGAR, Mar 30:
Lower Subansiri has recorded a total of 22 elephants along the western and northern parts of Ziro indicating a clear presence of healthy numbers of pachyderms in the district.
Taking part in the All India synchronized Elephant census 2017 campaign, Hapoli Forest Division carried out its elephant population estimation process from March 26 to 29 last.
On the concluding day, the department conducted a one-day sensitization programme wherein members from the biodiversity management committees, Ziro, Tropical exploration society etc participated.
Speaking on the occasion, DFO, Hapoli, Koj Rinya said that both direct and indirect counting methods were applied for the estimation in the blocks falling in the division.
He also congratulated the field staff and volunteers on successful completion of the exercise.
